2027: Badagry youths demand Lagos APC governorship ticket

2027: Badagry youths demand Lagos APC governorship ticket

Youths in Badagry under the aegis of the Lagos West APC Youth have called for the governorship seat of Lagos State to be zoned to Badagry Division in the interest of equity, fairness and justice.

The call was made by the Convener of Lagos West APC Youth, Prince Seyon Adeyemi Akran, in a speech delivered p behalf of the group at a gathering in Badagry.

Akran described the moment as historic, saying the youths were united in their demand for political inclusion and greater representation for the division.

“Today marks a defining moment in the history of Badagry Federation, and we stand here as the voice of the youth, united, conscious and determined.

“We are here to say clearly, confidently and collectively that Badagry has learnt from history and deserves its rightful place in the political leadership of Lagos State,”Akran said.

According to him, since the creation of Lagos State in 1967, Badagry Division has never produced a governor, in spite of its longstanding contributions to the state and the progressive political movement.

“Since the creation of Lagos State in 1967, through military and civilian administrations, Badagry has never produced a governor of the state not once. This is not an accusation; it is a fact.

“Our demand is rooted in justice and fairness, devoid of offence to God and man. In the spirit of equity, fairness and unity, Badagry deserves its rightful place,” he said.

Akran said Badagry had remained a loyal stakeholder in the political development of Lagos State and the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that the division had consistently delivered electoral support and remained committed to progressive ideals.

“Badagry is not on the sidelines. We are contributors. We are participants. We are stakeholders.

“From elections to governance, Badagry has stood with the progressive movement. We have shown loyalty. We have delivered. We have remained committed,” he said.

He stressed that the youths must not be excluded from the political future of the state, noting that inclusion, opportunity and representation were critical to sustaining confidence in the democratic process.

“We speak today as leaders of tomorrow, and we say clearly that the system must not disadvantage the youth. We deserve inclusion.

“We deserve opportunity. We deserve representation,” he said.

He also said Badagry possessed the human and material resources required to lead Lagos State, describing the division as strategic to the future growth of the state.

“Badagry is blessed with men and women of character, integrity, education and exposure. Badagry is not lacking. Badagry is ready.

“Badagry is critical to the future of Lagos State. It is a gateway to West Africa, rich in tourism potential, endowed with vast agricultural land and natural resources, and positioned for regional trade and economic expansion,” he said.

The youth leader said the moment required leadership deeply rooted in Badagry, with a clear understanding of the people’s challenges and aspirations.

He used the opportunity to endorse Mr Samuel Akinyemi Owolewa (SMA) as one of the sons of Badagry who had demonstrated commitment to the APC and its structures across the state.

Without making a formal declaration of candidacy on his behalf, Akran said Ajose had distinguished himself through sacrifice, grassroots mobilisation and sustained investment in party development.

“Mr Samuel Akinyemi Ajose, a proud son of Badagry, has demonstrated uncommon commitment through action, sacrifice and consistency,” he said.

“He has invested personal resources in strengthening party structures across the state, supported electoral processes across the seven local governments with logistics and coordination, and mobilised thousands in support of the progressive cause.”

“These are not claims. These are verifiable contributions. These are not mere political credentials; these are real actions under real conditions.”

Akran said Ajose’s record of practical support for the APC reflected competence, loyalty and readiness for higher responsibility.

“From strengthening party structures to building massive grassroots support and making significant personal investment in progressive leadership, he has demonstrated versatility, loyalty and commitment.

“At a time when the question is not just who should lead, but who is prepared to lead.

“SMA stands out as one who has shown readiness through sacrifice, organisation and unwavering commitment.”

The group, however, maintained that its core demand remained the zoning of the governorship seat to Badagry Division.

“Our position is clear. We stand firmly with our forefathers and remain aligned with the principle of equity.

“The office of the governor of Lagos State should be zoned to Badagry Federation.

“This is not division. This is inclusion. This is not agitation. This is justice.”

He also reaffirmed the group’s support for President Bola Tinubu and the APC, pledging massive youth mobilisation for future elections.

“We reaffirm our unwavering support for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and promise to deliver overwhelming youth votes for the President and all APC candidates in future elections,” he said.

“We remain loyal, committed and reliable. We stand with the Renewed Hope Agenda. We stand with all progressive forces,” he said.

He concluded by insisting that Badagry had waited long enough and was now ready to take its place in the leadership of Lagos State.

“Badagry has waited. Badagry has contributed. Badagry has delivered. Badagry is ready,” he said
