AHEAD of the 2027 general elections, a public opinion poll has projected the Chief Executive Officer of Imole Progressive Network , Mr. Michael Adeyanju, as the leading contender for the Ondo North Senatorial seat.
A survey, conducted by the Research and Public Opinion Unit of PenPlus Online Media Publishers popularly known as PenPlus Stat Index, revealed that Adeyanju, popularly known as Imole, enjoys overwhelming early support among voters in the district making him remain the people’s choice in the area.
The perception survey, carried out in February, assessed voters awareness of their elected representatives, perception of their performance, and early political preferences across the three senatorial districts of Ondo State.
While findings from Ondo North Senatorial District indicated that Adeyanju remains the preferred choice of the people, with 90 per cent of respondents expressing support for his candidacy ahead of the 2027 polls.
According to the survey conference, a total of 12,024 respondents participated in the exercise, representing a cross section cutting across farmers, traders, civil servants, artisans, youths and community stakeholders.
The survey covered all six local government areas and 72 political wards in the district.
The poll also revealed a high level of political awareness among residents, as all respondents confirmed knowledge of their current representatives at the National Assembly, including the incumbent senator and members of the House of representatives who is representing the districts federal constituencies.
However, the report shows that respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the current senator, with 85 per cent rating it as very poor, citing limited visibility and inadequate constituency interventions.
In contrast, members of the House of Representatives received relatively better assessments, with 45 per cent of respondents rating their performance as ‘average’ , attributing this to constituency projects, accessibility and grassroots engagement seen as a major factor shaping positive evaluation.
The report further noted that 85 per cent of respondents indicated a desire for a change in senatorial representation ahead of the next election cycle.
On voter preferences, the survey stated: “Among the aspirants mentioned, 90 per cent of respondents indicated that they currently favour Engineer Michael Adeyanju popularly known Imole as their preferred candidate for the senatorial seat.”
The poll identified key factors influencing voter approval to include constituency visibility, grassroots engagement and tangible development projects.
It also highlighted seven major findings, including high political awareness across wards, strong dissatisfaction with the current senator, average perception of House of Representatives members, and a strong early preference for Adeyanju.
A breakdown of the survey showed coverage of 13 wards in Akoko North-East, 10 in Akoko North-West, 11 in Akoko South-East, 15 in Akoko South-West, 12 in Ose, and 11 in Owo local government areas.
The report said: “The poll suggests that voters in Ondo North place strong emphasis on visible development projects, accessibility, and grassroots engagement when evaluating elected officials. A structured questionnaire was administered through face-to-face interviews.”
