UGHELLI — Great Minds International (GMI), a Delta State–based non-governmental youth organisation, has distributed gift items to newborn babies and their mothers at Ughelli Central Hospital as part of activities marking Valentine’s Day.

Presenting the items, GMI President, Michael Akadozi Okwuagwunauche, said the group dedicates every Valentine’s Day to spreading love to the less privileged.

“Great Minds International is a non-governmental organisation committed to putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged. February 14 is a day we set aside every year to share love, particularly with the needy, and we have sustained this outreach for the past eleven years,” he said.

Okwuagwunauche noted that in previous years, the organisation visited old people’s homes, orphanages, and correctional centres, providing gift items and financial support. He added that the group also conducted an anti-drug abuse awareness campaign in Abraka last year.

He explained that this year’s outreach focused on the maternity, children’s, and female wards of the hospital, where items such as detergents, sanitary pads, baby soap, diapers, and disinfectants were distributed to mothers, newborns, and other patients.

The GMI president urged Nigerian youths to unite in efforts to build a better nation through acts of compassion and community service.

Also speaking, Chairman of the GMI Planning Committee, Michael Iyere Ugbdaga, attributed the organisation’s achievements to the collective efforts of like-minded youths and expressed optimism about expanding its outreach to other parts of the country.

In his remarks, the Head of Social Welfare Department at the hospital, Nikoro Roland, commended the group for its gesture and prayed for continued success in its humanitarian efforts.

“I pray that God enables them to continue this kind gesture, and by next year, we hope to see them here again,” he said.
