The World Crafts Council has honoured Olusegun Runsewe with the Icon of Crafts, Culture and Hospitality in Africa award in recognition of his contributions to the development of arts, culture and the creative industry.

The award was presented at the second World Crafts Forum held in Kuwait City from February 1 to 3, 2026.

In a letter signed by its President, Sa’ad al-Qaddumi, the Council commended Runsewe for his unwavering commitment to the preservation, promotion and sustainability of handicrafts, as well as for empowering craft communities across Africa.

The Council said the commemorative plaque symbolises its appreciation of Runsewe’s leadership and dedication to advancing crafts and cultural heritage globally.

Runsewe is the immediate past Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC).

The 2026 forum, themed: Craft in the Creative Economy, brought together international craft leaders, artisans and policymakers to examine the role of crafts in modern society, with a focus on sustainability, heritage and resilience.
