The Lagos State government has reiterated its commitment to providing quality education through technology, innovation, infrastructural renewal and inclusiveness.
Special Advsier to the Governor of Lagos State on Tax and Revenue, Mr. Abdul-Kabir Ogungbo, emphasised the state’s commitment to noting that education is the engine room of economic growth, social stability, innovation, and global competitiveness.
Ogungbo spoke at the Angus 45th Founders Day Anniversary on Tuesday, held at Angus Memorial School, Lagos.
The event was held to celebrate the 45 years of excellence, impact and legacy and also honour outstanding alumni.
In his remarks, Ogungbo underscored the importance of education in shaping the society stating that without education, no nation would progress and no economy grow.
He said: “Education is the bedrock of a progressive society. Lagos State government has consistently demonstrated that education is not merely a social service, but a strategic investment and a lasting legacy. From the late Lateef Jakande era, which marked a revolutionary expansion of access to public education, through successive administrations that consolidated infrastructure, teacher quality, curriculum relevance, and governance reform, Lagos has maintained a clear trajectory of progress.
“Under the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu, we all witnessed how his transitional reforms as the Lagos State governor reshaped governance, reviving generations, and public service delivery. And this continues under subsequent governments and it remains a traditions today, being carried forward under the dynamic administration of Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu educational system continues to evolve, embracing technology, innovation, infrastructure, renewal, and inclusiveness.
“This continuity of vision is not accidental. It is deliberate. It reflects governments that understand that education is the engine room of economic growth, social stability, innovation, and global competitiveness.”
Ogungbo, who is also an alumnus of Angus Memorial School, urged students to be committed and dedicated to thier educational paths while maintaining discipline and integrity.
Also speaking, acting President, Angus Memorial High Old Student Association, AHMOSA, Mr. Rotimi Amu, urged students to push beyond thier limits and sieze opportunities to be excellent while trusting thier individual capabilites.
He acknowledged present and past principals, teachers and staffs in the school for thier dedication in nurturing students noting that thier efforts would not be forgotten.
Amu said: “As we celebrate our legacy, we also look to the future, where AHMOSA continues to inspire empower and transform lives. Where our students become transformational leaders, innovators and change makers around the globe.”
He commended the alumni for their sacrifice, hardwork and dedication noting that their legacy is one of resilience and excellence.
“AHMOSA has produced great leaders professionals, captains of industries and change makers”, he said.
In his remarks, Executive Editor at TVC, Mr. Kayode Ladeinde, also an alumnus, underscored the importance of the AHMOSA noting that their role as old students should be centered on supporting the school with projects and upgrading its standard to improve learning.
He emphasised the importance of education
saying that “School is not a scam. Its not enough to make all the millions of money. Education gives you the right mentality and confidence to stand wherever you are irrespective of your pockets”
