Stakeholders in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State have passed a vote of confidence on Governor Peter Mbah and the Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Council, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu.

The resolution was reached during a high-level meeting convened on Wednesday by the council chairman at Ikenga Hotel, Nsukka. The meeting focused on the forthcoming state and local government congresses, as well as other issues concerning the development of the council area.

Speaking at the forum, stakeholders commended Governor Mbah for what they described as his results-driven leadership and commitment to delivering democratic dividends across the state.

They cited key infrastructure projects, including the construction of the 9th Mile–Iwolo–Umulokpa Road, the ongoing dualisation of the Abakpa–Ugwogo–Opi–Nsukka Road, and the planned commencement of work on the Ikenga–Obimo–Nkpologu–Adani Road. They also referenced improvements in the health and education sectors.

According to them, the achievements of both the state and local government administrations are evident and impactful.

The forum urged opposition figures to engage in constructive criticism rather than resorting to name-calling or spreading misinformation.

Stakeholders also acknowledged efforts by the governor and the council chairman in tackling insecurity, noting that security had improved significantly in the area.

They further endorsed Ezugwu for a second term in office, stating that his performance merited continued support.

In his response, Ezugwu thanked the stakeholders for their support for both his administration and that of Governor Mbah. He stressed the importance of peace, unity and cooperation in governance.

He attributed the improved security situation in Uzo-Uwani to the backing received from the state government and the efforts of security operatives, including the Operation Kwechiri Special Squad.

“Before now, our farmers could hardly go to their farms, but today Uzo-Uwani is safe. We will continue to do our best in the area of security and in delivering democratic dividends to our people,” he said.

The meeting was attended by the member representing Uzo-Uwani in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Chukwuma Ekwueme; the Deputy Chairman of Uzo-Uwani, Mrs. Vera Ezeugwu; Member III of the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Bartholomew Ezugwu; and Uzo-Uwani APC Chairman, Kingsley Ani.

Others present included former member representing Uzo-Uwani/Igbo-Etiti Federal Constituency, Dr. Romanus Ezike; former Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Matthew Idu; former council chairmen; political appointees; development centre administrators; councillors; party executives; youth leaders; and other stakeholders.
