Port Harcourt — A coalition of 41 political groups operating under the Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM) has expressed displeasure over recent remarks attributed to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy Communications, Mr Daniel Bwala, concerning the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, in relation to the Rivers State political situation.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Sunday, the coalition described the comments as inappropriate and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene by cautioning his aide, noting that the remarks could heighten political tension in the state.
The statement, jointly signed by Hon. Johnson Georgewill, Director-General of RRM, and Mrs Sarima Akpata, Secretary of the group, said the coalition was concerned that public commentary by a presidential aide on the Rivers political crisis could undermine ongoing efforts aimed at dialogue and reconciliation.
According to the group, Barrister Wike remains a significant political figure in Rivers State and a key stakeholder in the current political landscape. The coalition urged public officials and government spokespersons to exercise restraint and ensure that their statements align with the official position of the Presidency on sensitive political matters.
“The President has so far handled the Rivers State situation through dialogue and engagement with relevant stakeholders. Public comments that may be perceived as contradictory to this approach should be avoided,” the statement said.
The coalition further appealed for unity among political actors in Rivers State, stressing that inflammatory statements could worsen divisions rather than promote stability.
The group also called on all parties involved in the Rivers State political crisis to prioritize peace and the overall interest of the state, particularly as efforts continue to resolve outstanding issues.
As of the time of filing this report, Mr Daniel Bwala had not publicly responded to the concerns raised by the coalition.
