The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, for its National Convention, to be held in Abuja.

The decision was taken on Monday at the 105th meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), held in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the NEC said the convention would elect members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other statutory organs of the party.

The NEC also unanimously reaffirmed all resolutions reached at its Emergency 104th meeting held on December 7, 2025, stressing that the decisions remain valid, binding and in force, having been taken in line with the PDP Constitution, the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act and relevant judicial pronouncements.

The party reiterated its confidence in the independence of the judiciary and welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the PDP’s leadership and administrative structure and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the party’s duly constituted National Caretaker Committee.

According to the NEC, all party organs and members must continue to comply strictly with subsisting court judgments, while urging INEC and other relevant institutions to fully obey the ruling in the interest of democracy and constitutional order.

The NEC further reaffirmed the legitimacy and mandate of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu as Secretary, describing it as the only lawful national administrative organ of the party pending the conduct of the National Convention.

As part of preparations for the convention, the NEC approved the timetable for party congresses nationwide, with ward and local government congresses scheduled for February, and state congresses slated for March.

It also approved the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, as well as affected state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the conduct of the national, state and zonal congresses.

The NEC mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and commence full logistical, administrative and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive and credible convention.

The party called on its members to remain united, disciplined and loyal, urging them to avoid actions capable of undermining internal cohesion and to place the collective interest of the PDP above personal considerations.

The communiqué was signed by the National Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Muhammed, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
