PORT HARCOURT — Over the past 15 years, Omega Power Ministries (OPM), led by HRM King Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, Founder and General Overseer and King of Ikwuorie Ancient Kingdom, has provided educational opportunities to more than 40,000 Nigerians through its local and overseas scholarship schemes.
The initiative, which supports disadvantaged students in universities and colleges across Nigeria and abroad, offers financial assistance for tuition, living expenses, and other academic costs. Annually, OPM awards scholarships to at least 5,000 students, enabling countless young Nigerians—many from low-income families or challenging backgrounds—to pursue tertiary education that might otherwise have been out of reach.
Speaking on the impact of the programme, OPM highlighted that more than 30,000 beneficiaries have graduated in diverse fields such as medicine, engineering, nursing, computer science, accounting, journalism, and public administration. Thousands more are currently enrolled, benefiting from the ministry’s consistent investment in human capital.
Beyond tertiary education, OPM has also established 42 free primary and secondary schools nationwide, a free girls’ technical college, and a specialised school for children with special needs, including autism and Down syndrome. These institutions provide tuition-free education and vocational skills training, addressing gaps in the Nigerian education system and empowering marginalized communities.
King Apostle Chinyere has maintained the initiative through church tithes and offerings, without direct government or international funding, underscoring a self-sustained model of faith-driven philanthropy.
“This scholarship scheme does more than fund education—it transforms lives, empowers communities, and strengthens the nation’s socio-economic future,” the ministry said.
The OPM programme stands as a testament to the power of committed private intervention in education, offering tens of thousands of young Nigerians not just scholarships, but a path to professional careers and brighter futures.
