In a renewed drive to boost educational support for the children of naval personnel, the Navy Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), today, February 13,2026,commissioned four newly constructed classroom blocks and a renovated music laboratory at the Nigerian Navy Officers’ Wives Secondary School, Ojo, Lagos.
Commissioning the facilities, NOWA President, Mrs Aisha Abass, described the development as more than an infrastructural upgrade, noting that “today marks not just the unveiling of bricks and mortar but the realisation of a shared mission , a commitment to nurturing the minds and futures of the children in our naval community.”
Drawing on the words of civil rights icon Malcolm X to emphasise the transformative power of learning, she added: “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
She noted that education remained central to the association’s mandate, particularly in light of the peculiar demands placed on naval families.
She said :“As wives of naval officers, we understand the unique challenges our families face , from frequent relocations to the demands of service life. Yet, through it all, we remain steadfast in our belief that quality education is the anchor that steadies our children, empowering them to navigate life’s seas with confidence and resilience,” she stated.
She explained that the newly completed project was designed to create a conducive learning environment capable of promoting excellence.
According to Mrs Abass:“This project represents a significant step toward providing a conducive learning environment equipped to foster creativity, critical thinking and excellence”.
While expressing appreciation to stakeholders, including the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass; the Principal Staff Officers at Naval Headquarters; and the school’s Parents-Teachers Association, for their support, which she said turned the vision into reality, she reminded the students that the facilities were built with their future in mind.
“This project is for you. I hope it inspires you to dream big, study hard and contribute meaningfully to our nation. Remember, the knowledge you gain here will be your greatest asset in serving Nigeria with honour,” she urged, pledging sustained commitment to educational advancement within the naval community.
In his welcome remark, the Commandant of the school, Commander Baba Inusa, described the project as a major milestone in the school’s development, noting that it would provide students with a more conducive learning atmosphere and modern musical instruments to enhance creativity.
He said: “This is not just about the renovation of a physical space; it symbolises the dedication to providing our students with the best possible learning environment”.
The Commandant expressed gratitude to the NOWA National President and all stakeholders who contributed to the project.
“We are grateful for the support and contributions of the NOWA national president. Your dedication and hard work have made today possible. Let us celebrate this achievement and look forward to the many successes that will emerge from these new facilities,” he added.
