The National Association of University Students, NAUS, Ogun State chapter has commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to the advancement of education in the country.
This is just as the body also lauded the take over of the Tai Solarin University of Education by the federal government.
In a statement by Comrade Araba Muhammed Okanlawon, the Chairman NAUS Ogun State chapter, the group also appreciated the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the priority given education sector.
“The newly-elected leadership of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Ogun State Chapter, extends heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the advancement of education in the state.
“We particularly commend the governor for the historic and strategic transfer of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) to the Federal Government. This milestone reflects a proactive approach to strengthening institutional capacity, improving funding access, enhancing academic standards, and ensuring long-term sustainability for the benefit of students, staff, and the broader educational ecosystem.
“Beyond this landmark achievement, we applaud the governor’s continued investments in infrastructural development, policy reforms, and progressive initiatives aimed at improving the quality, stability, and global competitiveness of tertiary institutions across Ogun State.
“We also extend our commendation to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for his student-centered educational reforms, particularly the establishment and implementation of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund). This policy has significantly improved access to higher education, eased financial burdens on students and families, and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to human capital development. We further recognize the administration’s broader educational policies that continue to positively impact learning outcomes and institutional growth nationwide.
“In the same spirit of gratitude, the NAUS Ogun State Chapter expresses profound appreciation to the immediate past leadership of the association, ably led by Comrade Adeyemi Boluwatife Opeyemi, alongside other dedicated executives. Their service, advocacy, and commitment to student welfare laid a strong foundation upon which we now build. We acknowledge their sacrifices, leadership, and contributions to strengthening student representation and engagement in Ogun State.
“As we assume office, we reaffirm our commitment to constructive engagement, responsible advocacy, and the protection of the academic and socio-economic interests of university students in Ogun State.
“However, we respectfully call on both the Federal and Ogun State governments to increase subvention and funding for tertiary institutions. Improved financial support is critical to addressing infrastructural deficits, enhancing research capacity, improving staff welfare, expanding student support services, and sustaining quality education in line with global best practices.
“We remain committed to partnering with government, institutional authorities, and relevant stakeholders to foster an enabling academic environment that promotes excellence, innovation, and sustainable development.”
