In commemoration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Lagos Ikoyi Elite Lions Club has sponsored girls at the Special Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi-Araba by presenting funds to support their Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, and Junior West African Examinations, WAEC,

The activity, which took place on Wednesday was attended by two Lions, two Leos, and one volunteer, along with the beneficiaries, who expressed great joy and appreciation for the support.

A goodwill message by TPl. Lion Soledotun Abdulkarim-Yusuf, Membership Director and District 404 A3 Global Service Team Coordinator, on behalf of the President, Lion Abdulkarim Yusuf, emphasized the importance of education in empowering young girls for a brighter future.

According to her, “Today reminds us that every girl — regardless of her background or current situation — carries great potential. Science is not only for a few people or for those born into privilege. It is for curious minds, brave thinkers, problem solvers, and dreamers — and we see all of these qualities in you.

“Science opens doors to careers in medicine, engineering, technology, environmental protection, and innovation that can change lives and communities. More importantly, it teaches us how to think, how to solve problems, and how to believe in ourselves.

“Your present circumstances do not define your future. What defines your future is your willingness to learn, grow, and keep hope alive. Many great women in science faced obstacles, rejection, and hardship — yet they rose to become world changers.

“As Lions, we believe in service, empowerment and second chances. We are here to encourage you to embrace education, especially in science, as a powerful tool to rebuild dreams and create new opportunities.

“To the management and caregivers of this centre, we appreciate your dedication to shaping these young lives with care and discipline.

“Dear girls, you are smart, capable, and full of promise. The world still needs your ideas, your creativity, and your brilliance.”

The representative of the Special Correctional Centre Mrs Shokanlu Ajibola expressed heartfelt gratitude and thanked members of the Lagos Ikoyi Elite Lions Club for their dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to service.
