Temitope Hamzat
Fast-rising Nollywood actress Temitope Hamzat, popularly known as “B-Solution,” has addressed widespread misconceptions about her personality, shared insights into her career journey, and highlighted key challenges facing the Nigerian film industry.
In an interview on Saturday, Hamzat revealed that she is often perceived as unaccommodating, proud, or overly assertive. She attributed these assumptions to her straightforward communication style.
“I know when to talk, how to talk and where to talk. This should not be mistaken for arrogance or lack of empathy,” she explained.
Outside of acting, Hamzat said she spends her time researching roles, reviewing scripts, and engaging in creative development. She credited music as a vital source of inspiration and mental balance.
Acting, she noted, has been transformative, helping her develop confidence, empathy, creativity, and strong communication skills. Taking on diverse characters has allowed her to “view the world from multiple perspectives.”
Among the biggest obstacles she has faced are typecasting, objectification, pressure to meet unrealistic beauty standards, and sexism-driven bias. Despite these, she emphasized that consistency, independence, patience, focus, and strong moral principles are essential for survival and success in Nollywood.
Looking ahead, Hamzat expressed interest in producing rather than directing, citing the greater creative control and storytelling influence it offers. She stressed the importance of professionalism, maturity, and accountability in the industry, noting that she maintains proper documentation of incidents—including dates, locations, and details—when necessary.
On the future of Nollywood, the actress called for greater inclusivity, improved talent development through training and mentorship, and more innovative content that explores fresh themes and embraces new technologies. She identified piracy, limited infrastructure, funding difficulties, and talent retention as major barriers to growth.
Hamzat’s candid reflections highlight both the personal resilience required to thrive in Nollywood and the systemic changes needed to elevate the industry on the global stage. (NAN)
