Iboju returns with deeper cultural focus in Ibadan

ArtHarmonyEmpire has concluded plans to use its cultural exhibition, Iboju (Mask), to explore themes of identity, vulnerability and societal perception through paintings.

‎Convener and Visual Artist, Idowu Odesola, popularly known as Harmony, said this edition will offer a deeper cultural experience.

According to him, Iboju will explore how masks reflect identity, emotions and human experiences.

This edition, which is coming after the success of the exhibition’s first, will also invite participants to experience creativity, heritage and artistic expression.

‎‎The exhibition will feature artworks, sip-and-paint sessions, cultural displays and interactive activities designed to help people connect with art in a simple and engaging way.

The three-day event will hold from February 27 to March 1, 2026, at the National Museum of Unity, Aleshinloye Ibadan, and is expected to bring together artists, creatives and art lovers from different places.

‎‎Odesola, an Ogbomoso-born visual artist and graduate of Fine and Applied Arts, has continued to grow his influence within Nigeria’s contemporary art scene. Harmony’s work is deeply influenced by Fauvism, an art movement known for its bold, expressive use of color and emotional freedom rather than strict realism. Like the Fauvist painters, he treats color as a language of feeling, exaggerated, vibrant, and intentional, using it to communicate inner states rather than surface appearances.

In his practice, colours are not bound by natural accuracy; instead, they are tools for storytelling, emotion, and psychological depth., his works centres in oil and acrylic painting, textile design, and performance art, and a host of other art-related engagement, such as realism ‎and portraiture.

Beyond creating art, he has remained committed to nurturing emerging creatives through mentorship and collaborative projects, positioning ArtHarmonyEmpire as a growing force in youth development.
