A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for the successful and peaceful conduct of the recent Federal Capital Territory Area Councils elections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won five of the six Area Councils in the FCT, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) secured one. APC also won bye-elections in Rivers and Kano States.

Rt. Hon. Nwuche praised the peaceful elections as a testament to Nigeria’s growing democratic maturity, saying the orderly process reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening democracy and respecting citizens’ choices.

He told Vanguard in Abuja, yesterday, “Peaceful elections are the bedrock of any thriving democracy.”

Nwuche who is the Chairman of the South South Development Commission (SSDC) also eulogized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for their professionalism, vigilance, and dedication to duty.

The former federal lawmaker expressed confidence that the credibility of the process will further boost public trust in the electoral system and reinforce confidence in the nation’s democratic journey.

The former Deputy Speaker particularly commended the Minister of the Federal Capital, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for what he described as “his bold, pragmatic, and people-centred leadership.”

He stressed that the visible transformation across the FCT, through accelerated infrastructure development ranging from road construction, rehabilitation, and expansion to improved public facilities, has significantly boosted the morale and confidence of residents and indigenous communities.

Rt. Hon. Nwuche further noted that good governance and tangible development are powerful instruments in consolidating democratic gains.

He noted that the outcome of the recent polls was a clear indication that the electorate were appreciative of all that the government is doing to improve their lives.
