ABUJA: The National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN has declared support for the ongoing reforms at the Energy Commission of Nigeria ECN, describing them as youth-friendly.

Consequently, the NYCN passed a vote of confidence on the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the ECN, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, praising his “visionary and youth-friendly” leadership in steering the nation towards a sustainable energy future.

The decision followed an emergency executive meeting in Abuja chaired by the NYCN President, Comrade Babangida Onimisi Isah.

In a communique released shortly after the session, the council lauded Dr Abdullahi for his rapid transformation of the ECN into a strategic hub for innovation and renewable energy research since his appointment in 2023.

“Dr Mustapha Abdullahi has, within a short period, demonstrated uncommon competence, innovation and commitment to national development,” the NYCN stated.

The council emphasized that his leadership style, which prioritizes youth engagement and sustainable development goals, resonates deeply with the aspirations of young Nigerians.

The NYCN also extended its gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for what it described as a “round peg in a round hole” appointment.

The council noted that placing Dr Abdullahi at the helm of the ECN is a testament to the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to entrust critical national institutions to forward-thinking and results-driven technocrats.

“Dr Abdullahi represents a new generation of young Nigerian technocrats who are not only globally competitive but also deeply committed to national service. He is a shining example of youth excellence in governance and a worthy ambassador of the Renewed Hope Initiative”, the communique added.

The council further argued that the Director-General’s performance in the strategic energy sector – a sector vital for industrialization and job creation – qualifies him for “even greater national responsibilities.”

Reaffirming their commitment to his reforms, the youth body stated: “We wish to clearly state that Nigerian youths are solidly and unreservedly behind Dr Mustapha Abdullahi. We reaffirm our confidence in his leadership and pledge our continued support and partnership as he works to build a resilient, sustainable, and youth-driven energy future for Nigeria.”

The NYCN urged Dr Abdullahi to remain steadfast, describing his work as the foundation for a modernized energy landscape that will benefit generations to come.
