ABUJA — An alliance of more than 180 civil society organisations under the Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) has expressed support for Senator Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North, dismissing allegations of contract bias and urging the public to rely on verified information while assessing his performance ahead of the 2027 political cycle.

In a statement signed by Comrade Ogakwu Dominic, President of CSGGG, the coalition said its position followed an independent assessment of the senator’s legislative and constituency activities.

The group also addressed recent reports alleging that some constituency contracts involving motorcycles, computing equipment, emergency rice supplies and solar-powered streetlights were awarded to companies allegedly linked to the senator and members of his family.

The coalition noted that while critics have raised concerns about possible conflicts of interest and compliance with procurement procedures, the senator has described the allegations as politically motivated and stated that project execution and delivery should remain the basis for accountability.

CSGGG said its assessment covered projects and interventions across Ogoja, Yala, Bekwarra, Obudu and Obanliku Local Government Areas, including education, infrastructure, water supply, electrification, healthcare, agriculture and skills development initiatives facilitated within the senatorial district.

The group listed school construction, renovation and furnishing projects, road rehabilitation works, bridge construction, installation of solar-powered and motorized boreholes, electrification projects supported by transformers, solar-powered streetlights, medical outreach programmes, distribution of equipment to primary healthcare centres, and enrollment of constituents into a health insurance programme among interventions identified in the review.

It also referenced agricultural support programmes, vocational training initiatives, scholarships, empowerment programmes involving equipment distribution and financial assistance, and the construction of community recreational facilities within the district.

“Our independent assessment confirms tangible results in the senator’s legislative and constituency work. While oversight is essential to democratic governance, it must be balanced, fair, and evidence-based,” Dominic said.

The coalition urged citizens and political actors to base public discourse on verified facts, stating that discussions should focus on accountability and development outcomes rather than unsubstantiated allegations.
