SOKOTO:–The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Congress Committee for Sokoto State, Honourable Lawali Liman Kaura, has expressed strong satisfaction with the conduct of the party’s Ward Congresses held across the 244 wards of Sokoto State on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, describing the exercise as peaceful, orderly and a true reflection of internal democracy.

Speaking after an inspection tour of selected wards in the state, Kaura commended party members for what he termed “a commendable display of discipline, maturity and unity” throughout the exercise. He was accompanied on the tour by the Committee Secretary, Zubairu Muhammad Lawali.

According to him, the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the congresses underscores the commitment of APC members to strengthening democratic structures at the grassroots level, not only in Sokoto State but across the country.

“The conduct of our members during the Ward Congresses is a practical demonstration of the meaning of our party’s symbol, the broom, which stands for unity and collective strength,” Kaura stated.

“What we have witnessed here today is unity in action.”

He noted that the broom, as symbolized by the APC, represents the strength derived from togetherness, stressing that no single strand can stand alone, but when bound together, they become formidable.

Kaura said the orderly manner in which delegates and party faithful conducted themselves has set a positive tone for the next phase of the congresses, particularly the Local Government Congresses scheduled to hold nationwide on Saturday.

He appealed to all party members to sustain the same spirit of cooperation, tolerance and unity as the process advances, warning that internal cohesion remains vital to the party’s continued electoral success at state and national levels.

The Committee Chairman further praised the Sokoto State leadership of the APC for what he described as meticulous planning and transparent coordination, which he said contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the exercise.

“The arrangements put in place by the state leadership ensured that the process was seamless. This is a testament to effective leadership and commitment to party ideals,” he added.

Political observers in the state note that the successful conduct of the Ward Congresses in Sokoto aligns with similar exercises carried out in other states, reflecting the party’s broader strategy to consolidate its structures ahead of future political contests.

The APC’s nationwide congresses are widely regarded as critical to reinforcing grassroots participation, renewing mandates of party executives, and repositioning the party for evolving political dynamics across Nigeria.

Analysts also observe that peaceful congresses serve as a barometer of internal stability within political parties, often shaping public perception and influencing broader democratic development in the country.

As the focus shifts to the upcoming Local Government Congresses, party stakeholders in Sokoto and beyond are optimistic that the unity and orderliness recorded at the ward level will be replicated nationwide, further strengthening the APC’s grassroots foundation and consolidating its national outlook.
