Annexkayclothing brings modern African fashion from Lagos to London

From the bustling streets of Lagos to the runways of London, Annexkayclothing has become a standout name in modern African fashion. Founded 11 years ago by Anu Kolawole also known as Annexkay, the brand started with a simple yet creative idea: transform bold graphic designs into wearable clothing. What began as printing custom designs on ready-made garments quickly evolved into full-scale fashion production, merging contemporary style with African cultural heritage.

Over time, Annexkay developed a distinctive approach that celebrates African artistry and storytelling through fashion. “African fabrics aren’t just textiles; they carry the history and traditions of our tribes,” he explains. Annexkayclothing had expanded from customized pieces to original garments crafted entirely in-house, combining traditional motifs with modern cuts. This commitment to authenticity and innovation established the brand as a pioneer in fusing heritage and contemporary style.

In 2023, Annexkayclothing made a major leap onto the international stage, officially registering as Annexkayclothing Ltd in the United Kingdom. Annexkay quickly gained attention in London’s fashion scene, showcasing the brand at local events and building a strong online presence with over 25,000 Instagram followers. The brand also launched a thriving Etsy store, turning a passion project from Lagos into a recognized global label while staying true to its slogan: “AllNaStyle.”

Currently, the brand is preparing its next collection, OwoEyo Reigns, which draws inspiration from iconic African cowrie shells, symbols of wealth and protection. The collection features sleek blazers, stylish hoodies, and intricately designed accessories that combine cultural significance with everyday wearability.

“I want every piece to make people feel royal but comfortable in their street style,” Annexkay says, highlighting the collection’s fusion of tradition and modern fashion.

Despite challenges in sourcing quality materials, managing supply chains, and balancing creativity with business growth, Annexkay considers his greatest accomplishment the ability to remain independent and consistent over 11 years. His advice to aspiring designers is clear: “Start small, stay true to your voice, and surround yourself with good energy. Celebrate where you come from, fuse it with where you’re going, and make it yours.”

Annexkayclothing’s journey reflects not just fashion innovation, but a celebration of African heritage on a global stage.
