ABUJA – Youth leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu North Senatorial District say they plan to deploy satellite internet across all polling units in the district during the 2027 general elections, in a bold move they believe will prevent election-day manipulation.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Dr. Dwilliams Uchenna, popularly known as SPD, from Nsukka Local Government Area.
The statement comes amid nationwide debate over the reluctance of the National Assembly to make real-time electronic transmission of election results mandatory, a development many civic groups have described as a setback for electoral transparency under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Uchenna volunteered to provide Starlink satellite internet services for every polling unit in the senatorial district. The proposal directly addresses one of the most common explanations given during elections; so-called “network glitches.”
“With independent, high-speed satellite connectivity in place: Result uploads will be instant and verifiable. Manual transmission loopholes will be structurally eliminated. Artificial delays capable of altering outcomes will be exposed. Electoral integrity will be technologically safeguarded,” the statement read.
Momentum around the initiative increased when the National Youth Leader of the ADC, Balarabe Rufa’i, visited Nsukka to formally receive Uchenna into the party. The reception was held at SPD’s residence in Edem Ani Ward, Nsukka LGA, shortly after the unveiling of the ADC Party House in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area.
Those present included Comrade Stella Chukwuma, Enugu State Chairman of the ADC, members of the State Working Committee, Enugu North zonal and local government stakeholders, party faithful and youth mobilisers.
Addressing supporters, Rufa’i said the party was committed to youth participation and national transformation.
“The youth are not spectators. They are organized, intentional, and prepared. Nigeria’s future cannot be negotiated without them,” he declared.
Party stakeholders said thousands of young people turned out across Enugu North, describing the mobilisation as a structured demand for transparency, accountability and credible leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
As preparations for the polls gather pace, stakeholders in the district say the initiative goes beyond routine political mobilisation and reflects a broader push for stronger electoral safeguards.
“If institutions hesitate to modernize electoral safeguards, citizens and youth-led movements will deploy innovation to defend democracy,” the statement added.
Within the ADC youth wing, the initiative is being positioned as an effort to make Enugu North a benchmark for credible elections, a standard party leaders believe could extend beyond the district.
