Zaria—The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for his commitment to initiatives aimed at reviving the state’s industrial capacities.

Prof. Ahmed expressed his appreciation in a letter to the governor, thanking him for attending ABU’s 45th Convocation Ceremony and for pledging N50 million to support the university’s Science and Technology Incubation Park.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the incubation park is being developed with a strong regional development focus, emphasizing innovation, technology transfer, enterprise development, and industrial linkages that align with Kano State’s industrialization agenda under Governor Yusuf’s administration.

He said the governor’s presence at the convocation added “immense value and significance” to the occasion, noting that the park is expected to reposition Kano as a centre of industrial renewal in Northern Nigeria. The ceremony also featured the laying of the foundation stone of the park by the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Prof. Ahmed highlighted the governor’s engagement with Dr. Okonjo-Iweala at the event, saying their discussion underscored Yusuf’s resolve to translate his development vision for Kano into tangible outcomes.

He further thanked the governor for his continued support to ABU, noting that such gestures place him among the few Northern leaders upholding the legacy of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, who founded the university in 1962 as a key institution for regional and national development.

Expressing optimism, the Vice-Chancellor said the Science and Technology Incubation Park, when fully operational, would serve as a strategic platform for nurturing start-ups, strengthening manufacturing value chains, and driving economic transformation in the region.

Prof. Ahmed also reaffirmed ABU’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Kano State Government in pursuit of shared economic growth and prosperity.

The park is being developed under a partnership between Ahmadu Bello University and AMA Medical Manufacturing Company Ltd. The agreement was signed prior to the groundbreaking by Prof. Ahmed on behalf of ABU and the Chairman of AMA Medical Manufacturing Company, Prof. Abdulsalam Nasidi. Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Bello, founder of the firm, along with other top management staff, attended the event.
