The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir, has formally handed over the leadership of the Agency following the completion of his statutory tenure, which ended on December 31, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Head of Communications and Protocol, Mrs. Ama Umoren, NEMSA said that in compliance with a directive from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engr. Tahir handed over the affairs of the Agency to the most senior Executive Director, Corporate Services, Dr. Utsu P. Ashibel, who will serve in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.

“The handover was conducted strictly in line with the SGF Circular on End-of-Tenure Processes and Succession Guidelines to ensure continuity, stability, and adherence to due process,” the statement said.

According to the Agency, the transition followed the provisions of SGF Circular Ref. No. SGF/OP//I/S.3/T/39 dated August 28, 2019, which mandates outgoing chief executives of extra-ministerial departments and agencies to hand over to the next most senior officer of the establishment.

NEMSA reassured stakeholders and the general public that the leadership change would not disrupt its operations.

“The Agency remains fully operational and steadfast in the delivery of its statutory responsibilities, with no disruption to its regulatory, inspection, certification, and safety oversight functions,” the statement added.

Commenting on the outgoing Managing Director’s tenure, the Agency noted that Engr. Tahir recorded notable achievements in institutional strengthening, improved regulatory enforcement, enhanced operational efficiency, and renewed stakeholder confidence.

“The Management and staff of NEMSA commend Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir for his dedicated service and leadership and reaffirm the Agency’s commitment to sustaining the reforms and progress achieved during his tenure,” the statement said.

NEMSA emphasized that the orderly handover reflects its commitment to transparency, effective governance, and strict compliance with public service rules in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
