The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 16, AIG Johnson Oluwole Adenola, alongside the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, have conducted a surprise assessment of checkpoints along the East–West Road as part of efforts to sanitise highway policing in the state.

The operation underscores renewed efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen public trust and ensure that highways remain safe corridors for all travellers.

During the inspection, AIG Adenola and CP Edebor personally supervised the dismantling of illegal roadblocks that were obstructing the free flow of traffic.

The exercise was aimed at addressing growing public concerns over the conduct of security personnel on major expressways.

The police leadership warned officers on duty that the command would maintain zero tolerance for extortion, harassment or any form of professional misconduct.

“This exercise will be a routine operation to checkmate the conduct of officers on highways across the state,” CP Edebor said, signalling a sustained commitment to discipline and accountability within the force.
