Nigerian striker Yenne ready for intense Russian Premier League

Baltika Kaliningrad of Russia striker, Tenton Yenne has hailed the intensity of the Russian Premier League, as he pushes for new heights at his new club after emerging as one of the hottest prospects in Europe.

The striker reflected on the most prolific spell of his career in Armenia, describing his time with Ararat-Armenia as a defining chapter that shaped his development and confidence as a goalscorer.

The Nigerian forward believes his breakthrough years in Armenia were driven as much by off-the-pitch connection as on-the-pitch consistency and he hopes to leverage on that in Russia.

The move to Russia, however, has presented a new challenge. Yenne admitted that the Russian Premier League demands a higher level of intensity, citing the quality of players, superior infrastructure, modern stadiums and passionate fan support as factors that set the league apart. He believes those elements make the RPL one of the most competitive environments he has experienced in Europe.

“What makes the RPL different is the intensity, quality of players, equipment, the have some of the amazing stadiums and fans support,” the 25-year-old added.

Now looking to take the Russian Premier League by storm, Yenne attributed his impressive goal return in Armenia to a strong relationship with the people and culture of the country, which he said helped him settle quickly and perform freely.

“My time in Armenia was ordained by God, from the beginning until the end. What helped me was having a good relationship with the country people, I was loved and I love the people of Armenia, and that helped me settle and achieve some of my goals. That is what I am looking to enjoy as I settle here too,” the striker said.

Across three seasons with Ararat-Armenia, Yenne scored 43 goals and 17 assists in 94 appearances, reaching double figures in each of his final three campaigns with tallies of 10, 16 and 17 goals respectively. He also had six assists in the 2022/23 season, followed by seven and four in subsequent seasons.

Those figures marked a sharp contrast to his earlier European stints, where he struggled to score more than five goals in a single season across three different clubs.

Unlike his immediate impact in Armenia, the forward has endured a relatively slow start to life at Baltika, but he remains confident that his scoring touch will return.

“It is a matter of time and I am focused on rediscovering the rhythm and confidence that defined those last three seasons.”

As Baltika continue their push in the Russian Premier League, Yenne is determined to draw on the lessons from Armenia—settlement, belief and consistency—to make a similar impact in Russia.
