Nasarawa NSCDC Commandant lauds extension of Commandant General’s tenure

By Edwin Philip, Lafia

Lafia — The Nasarawa State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Brah Samson Umoru, has described the extension of the tenure of the Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as well-deserved, citing his innovative leadership and transformative initiatives.

Commandant Umoru spoke shortly after the decoration ceremony of 168 newly promoted officers of the Nasarawa State Command, comprising 136 senior officers and 28 junior officers, in Lafia, the state capital.

“I am not surprised by this decision. It is well-deserved because those of us within the system know what the Commandant General has achieved for the Corps,” he said. “His innovations and ideas have elevated the NSCDC to this level, and there are still numerous policies and plans underway that the government recognizes need more time to be fully implemented. Nigerians will soon witness the outcomes of his vision for the Corps and the nation.”

Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, a native of Nasarawa State, was first appointed as Commandant General of the NSCDC by the late President Muhammadu Buhari on January 18, 2021.

Addressing the newly promoted officers, Commandant Umoru encouraged them to rededicate themselves to protecting critical national assets and to become innovators in their duties. “I am charging each officer to step up and give their best. Protect the facilities entrusted to you, and find new ways to add value to your performance, especially in the area of security,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, the Minister of Interior, and the Commandant General for promoting personnel as part of ongoing efforts to encourage performance and boost morale.

Among those promoted, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer was elevated from Deputy Superintendent to Superintendent of Corps. Speaking to reporters, he expressed gratitude to God, the Commandant General, and the State Commandant, pledging to redouble efforts to uphold the Corps’ reputation.

Assistant Superintendent 1, Ibrahim Nefisat, the Female Squad Commander in charge of the Safe School Squad, said the promotion added responsibilities. She highlighted ongoing safety measures for schools in Nasarawa State, emphasizing proactive prevention and round-the-clock security for students, teachers, and school infrastructure.

The decoration ceremony was attended by heads of security agencies, government officials, and traditional rulers, marking a significant milestone for the 2025 cohort of promoted officers.
