Lagos State Government on Thursday, convened a strategic stakeholders’ meeting on the proposed Obalende Bus Park redevelopment project.

Recall that the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, had earlier this week announced approval by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the transformation of the Obalende Bus Stop into a modern bus transport hub that will transform the Obalende loop, under-bridge and adjoining lay-by, ensuring a fit into the Lagos State Mega-City.

The project which will be fully sponsored by telecommunication giant, MTN as a Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, contribution to the development of Lagos State will transform Obalende Bus Stop into an aesthetically-pleasing and functional public space.

Representatives of MTN Nigeria disclosed that the project is expected to be completed within 21 weeks from the date of commencement.

The redevelopment will be executed in three major components: the Main Bus Park, Bus Park 2, and ancillary facilities including a Loading Bay and Park Garden.

Speaking at the meeting, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, stressed the need for optimal utilization of the available space to accommodate all commercial buses operating within the Obalende axis. He stressed that adequate and functional facilities must be incorporated to guarantee the successful implementation and sustainability of the project.

The Special Adviser further recommended the constitution of a small technical committee to address critical details and ensure proper coordination, while also underscoring the importance of fully engaging transport unions throughout the project lifecycle.

In attendance at the meeting were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi Akodu; the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Engr. Mahamood Adegbite; the Chairman, Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Bola Oladunjoye; the Managing Director, Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadagesin, among others.
