The political landscape of Enugu State witnessed a significant shift on January 17, 2026, as the leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu West, Dr. John Nwokeabia, declared his intention to lead the party to victory in the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Nwokeabia, a former Labour Party deputy governorship candidate in the state, made the declaration while hosting a strategic meeting of grassroots leaders and key stakeholders at his residence in Enugu West.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, Dr. Nwokeabia expressed confidence that the ADC would record a landslide victory in 2027, winning all elective positions in Enugu State.
A major highlight of the meeting was his open endorsement of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi. Dr. Nwokeabia described his support for Obi as “non-negotiable,” stressing that the ADC–Obi alliance remains central to what he termed national and state political renewal.
He said the party was preparing for a more impactful outing in 2027, describing the 2023 elections as only a precursor to what lies ahead. He also called for unity among party members and urged stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation and membership drives across communities in Enugu West.
Dr. Nwokeabia noted that the party’s focus would be on reaching voters at the ward and community levels, stressing that internal divisions must give way to collective action ahead of the next elections.
Discussions during the meeting also touched on the zoning of the ADC chairmanship to Enugu West. However, participants reportedly reached a consensus that fostered unity and cooperation within the party.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, a former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), described the ADC as a growing political force and a party to watch ahead of the 2027 polls.
Other prominent figures at the meeting included the ADC State Chairman, Mrs. Stella Chukwuma, as well as OAU Onyema, Dr. Walter Oji, and AC Udeh, all of whom pledged their commitment to the party’s growth and electoral success.
The meeting ended with a resolution to immediately commence strategic and grassroots political engagements, as the ADC positions itself for the 2027 elections in Enugu State.
