Coalition calls for calm, urges responsible reporting on NSCDC affairs

The Coalition of Civil Societies (CCS), Abuja, has appealed for calm and responsible engagement following recent public discussions concerning administrative matters within the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Coalition’s National Coordinator, Mr Sunday Attah, urged the media and the general public to exercise restraint and ensure accuracy in reporting on sensitive institutional issues, noting that such matters require proper context and understanding of existing government processes.

According to the Coalition, issues relating to salaries, promotions, and other personnel-related matters within paramilitary agencies are governed by established federal government procedures involving multiple institutions. It explained that these processes typically engage relevant oversight bodies and are subject to budgetary and administrative approvals.

The Coalition noted that the current leadership of the NSCDC assumed office with pre-existing administrative obligations and has since been engaging appropriate authorities through formal channels to address outstanding issues affecting personnel.

On promotion matters, the group stated that promotion exercises follow structured timelines, including examinations, release of results, and subsequent administrative actions, all of which are carried out in line with approved public service guidelines.

While reaffirming the importance of the media’s role in promoting transparency and accountability, the Coalition emphasized the need for thorough verification of information and balanced presentation to avoid misunderstandings or unnecessary tension within public institutions.

The group also encouraged NSCDC personnel to remain focused on their statutory duties, assuring them that relevant authorities are continuing engagements aimed at resolving administrative matters through due process.

“The emphasis should be on dialogue, accuracy, and patience,” the Coalition said, adding that institutional matters are best addressed through established mechanisms rather than speculation.

The Coalition concluded by calling on all stakeholders to support constructive engagement and responsible communication in the interest of institutional stability and national security.
