The National Teachers’ Summit convened educators, policymakers, and key stakeholders to examine pathways toward a more sustainable future for education in Nigeria. A major highlight of the summit was the participation of Serah Yusuf, Winner of the Maltina Teacher of the Year 2025, who contributed meaningfully as both a speaker and panellist. Drawing from her classroom experience at Wisdom International School of Excellence (WISE), she helped ground national discussions in the everyday realities of teaching and learning.
The summit hosted notable dignitaries, including the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, alongside key education stakeholders such as Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmed, Dr Ronke Soyombo, other Stakeholders in Education including Dr. Kabir Abass of WISE school. Their presence underscored the relevance of the dialogue and the collective responsibility of stakeholders in shaping Nigeria’s education sector.
Speaking to this diverse and influential audience, Serah Yusuf positioned herself as a representative voice for teachers across public, private, and underserved communities. She stressed that teacher well being encompassing physical, emotional, mental, and psychological health as well as teacher welfare, including fair remuneration, safe working conditions, access to healthcare, and opportunities for professional growth, must be treated as non negotiable priorities. Referencing the National Teacher Policy (FME, 2025), she called for a deliberate shift from rhetoric to action, noting that when teachers are adequately supported, learning flourishes and national development is strengthened.
