The Abuja Grand Commandery of the Knights of St John International (KSJI) has ushered in a new chapter in its history with the emergence of Brigadier General Francis Ulonna Njoku as its Grand President, marking a renewed commitment to disciplined leadership, authentic Catholic witness, and purposeful service to the Church and society.

The inauguration of Sir Njoku as the 6th Grand President of the Abuja Grand Commandery was the highlight of the knights and ladies’ 2025 convention. Also installed were other members of the new executive. The occasion reflected the Order’s enduring ideals of faith, charity, unity, discipline, and patriotism.

For the Knights of St John International, leadership is not just about titles or ceremonies—it is about service, sacrifice, and living out the values of the Catholic faith in practical, tangible ways. And in Brigadier General Njoku, the Abuja Grand Commandery believes it has found a leader who embodies all of these qualities.

Brigadier General Njoku brings to the office a distinguished record of service, leadership, and administrative competence, garnered from decades of experience in both public service and community development.

A seasoned military officer, he is widely respected for his discipline, integrity, strategic thinking, and commitment to duty—qualities that resonate strongly with the noble ideals of knighthood.

Beyond his professional career, the new Grand President is a tested community leader and administrator, having served in various leadership capacities over the years, including as Grand Secretary and President General of his community at home and abroad, where he spearheaded impactful initiatives that transformed communities through infrastructure development, skills acquisition, and youth and women empowerment.

His background as a trained educator and human resource leader further underscores his capacity to mentor, organise, and inspire people toward shared goals. Those who have worked with him describe him as a man of vision, humility, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

In his acceptance remarks, Brigadier General Njoku expressed deep gratitude to members of the Commandery for the confidence reposed in him, describing the office of Grand President as

“a sacred trust anchored on service, sacrifice, accountability, and fidelity to the teachings of the Church.”

He pledged to lead with humility, inclusiveness, and discipline, while strengthening the spiritual life of members and enhancing the Commandery’s contribution to the evangelical and social mission of the Catholic Church.

The new Grand President emphasized unity, obedience to the ideals of the Noble Order, and proactive engagement in charitable and social interventions, particularly in support of the clergy, youth formation, family life, and the less privileged.

He also underscored the need for strategic partnerships, institutional efficiency, and greater visibility of the Order within the Archdiocese of Abuja.

“We are called not just to wear the insignia of knighthood, but to live it out in service to God and our neighbours,” he said.

His words struck a chord with many in attendance, who saw in him a leader who understands that true leadership is measured not by power or prestige, but by impact and integrity.

Senior members of the Order commended the peaceful transition of leadership and expressed strong confidence in Brigadier General Njoku’s ability to provide steady, visionary, and principled leadership, given his proven track record of discipline, transparency, and service both within and outside the Order.

One senior knight, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said,

“We have chosen wisely. Brigadier General Njoku is not just a leader—he is a servant leader. He has the experience, the character, and the faith to take this Commandery to greater heights.”

With the emergence of Brigadier General Francis Ulonna Njoku as Grand President, the Abuja Grand Commandery is widely regarded as well-positioned to consolidate its legacy and advance a renewed culture of service, spiritual growth, disciplined administration, and responsible Catholic leadership in Nigeria’s capital.

The new Grand President is happily married with five children and holds a Doctoral Degree in Policy Analysis—a testament to his commitment to continuous learning and intellectual growth.

As he assumes this sacred responsibility, members of the Commandery, the clergy, and the wider Catholic community in Abuja have expressed their prayers and support for his success.
