40 bag first class as TASFUED graduates 4,785

…Honours Mrs Tinubu, Gov. Abiodun, Chief Osoba

No fewer than 40 out of the 4,785 regular students that are graduating from the Tai Solarin Federal University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State are bagging First Class degree in various fields.
This is just as the university is set to honour Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, Ogun State Governor, Mr Dapo Abiodun and a former governor of the state, Aremo Olusegun Osoba during the coming convocation ceremony.
This was disclosed on Friday by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adekunle Olanrewaju Adeogun, while listing the activities lined up for the 17th convocation ceremony of the institution.
“At this 17th Convocation Ceremony, a total of 4,785 regular students will be graduating from the university. Out of this number: 40 obtained First Class Honours; 1,466 obtained Second Class Upper Division; 2,768 obtained Second Class Lower Division; 492 obtained Third Class; 19 obtained Pass Degrees,” he said.
Giving a breakdown of the number of graduates per College, he added, “College of Agriculture and Hospitality Management 73;
College of Humanities 1,286; College of Science and Information Technology 771;
College of Social and Management Sciences 935; College of Specialised and Professional Education 817; and College of Vocational and Technological Education 903.”
At the postgraduate level, the university would be graduating a total number of 356 with 73 Postgraduate Diploma in Education; 21 Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) holders; 85 M.Ed; 50 M.Sc; 19 M.A; 05 M.A (Ed); 13 MLIS and 90 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) graduates.
While mentioning some of the achievements recorded in the last one year, Prof. Adeogun noted that the adoption of the university by the Federal Government was a welcome development.
” Closely following this is the historic adoption of this institution by the Federal Government of Nigeria. This development has significantly strengthened our institutional standing, and positioned TASFUED more firmly within the national framework for teacher education and infrastructural development.”
He also said all the programmes run by the institution were fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“Our curricula have been continuously reviewed to align with global best practices, with greater emphasis on STEM education, digital pedagogy, entrepreneurship, and inclusive education.
“The National Universities Commission has approved 12 new programmes spanning through 4 colleges namely COVTED, COSMAS, COSIT and COAHM and 4 programmes at the Ph D. level. Entrepreneurship has been added as a full degree programme, and a dedicated centre has been created for Entrepreneurial Studies,” he added.
On human capacity building, the VC said over 600 staff members benefited from internal trainings, 70 benefitted from conference sponsorship, 28 from institutional based research grants, five from academic training and two from National Research Funds among others.
He commended the partnerships and engagements between the university and various private business enterprises and foundations that have benefitted the university immensely.
” Additionally, we have hosted distinguished events and conferences, including the 2025 International Conference of the Institute of Educational Leadership Practitioners of Nigeria, where we received Dr. Amanda Johnson of Kent State University, United States of America, as a keynote speaker.
In addition, we acknowledge with deep appreciation the generous interventions of the Senator representing Ogun West, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, who donated five (5) minibuses, solar-powered lighting facilities, and computer laptops to the University. These contributions have greatly enhanced our mobility, security, and ICT capacity.
“We have also been profoundly blessed by the philanthropic spirit of other great Nigerians. Chief (Dr.) Dotun Sanusi, the CEO of Ilaji Hotels & Resorts, generously donated a fully equipped Staff Club building to enhance the welfare and recreational life of our dedicated workforce
” Furthermore, Chief Yemisi Shyllon, an internationally renowned art collector and patron of the arts, has bestowed upon the University a magnificent statue of the iconic educationist and civil rights crusader, Tai Solarin. This inspiring statue will serve as a permanent visual testament to his ideals and a beacon for our university community.
‘Dr. Taiwo Olayinka Afolabi,Chairman, CEO of SIFAX Group of Companies, donated a staff guest house (under construction) within the Ijagun Campus of the University.’
He paid glowing tributes to the numerous alumni of the university who are doing well in various spheres of life nationally and globally.
