… Endorses Defence Minister Musa

The Oodua Youths Parliament (OYP) has called on President Bola Tinubu and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to review the party’s vice-presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its leader, Aare Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi, the group proposed the Minister of Defence and former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as a possible running mate to the President.
According to the group, Nigeria’s current challenges, particularly in the area of security, require leadership with extensive professional experience and a broad national outlook.
“The challenges confronting Nigeria, especially in the security sector, require leadership with deep professional experience,” the statement said. “We believe General Christopher Musa has the capacity and credibility to support the President at this critical time.”
The OYP acknowledged the contributions of Vice President Kashim Shettima, describing him as a stabilising figure and an important part of the administration since its inauguration. However, the group appealed for what it described as a reconsideration of the vice-presidential position in the interest of addressing prevailing national concerns.
“This call is not borne out of disrespect,” the statement noted, “but from a belief that the vice-presidential role should be recalibrated to better respond to Nigeria’s current security realities.”
The group argued that Musa’s military background could strengthen the federal government’s approach to tackling insecurity, including terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.
It also highlighted the importance of national balance and inclusiveness, stating that Musa’s profile could promote unity, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
According to the OYP, Musa’s appointment as Minister of Defence has attracted positive public perception, adding that his leadership aligns with the administration’s policy direction, particularly in the protection of lives and property.
The group further reaffirmed its support for enhanced inter-agency cooperation and a unified national security framework, which it said are essential for achieving long-term peace and stability in the country.
