Jos – A coalition of PDP support groups in Plateau State on Monday staged a rally in Jos, calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Led by Christopher Dachen, the coalition began its march at Secretariat Junction before proceeding to the Government House, Rayfield to formally present an advocacy letter requesting the Governor’s movement to the ruling Party at the federal level.

The group, made up of members drawn from the 17 local government areas of the State, said its demand was based on what it described as a careful study of the political landscape in Plateau and Nigeria.

Speaking during the visit, Dachen said aligning with President Bola Tinubu would further accelerate Plateau’s development and strengthen federal–state collaboration.

“We are here after studying the political situation in Plateau State and Nigeria. We, as Plateau people and committed supporters, are calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang, to move to the APC,” Dachen stated.

Dachen recalled that President Tinubu demonstrated sympathy toward Plateau during recent security challenges by sending the First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, to commiserate with the people, and according to him, the gesture signalled goodwill that the State should reciprocate by aligning politically for the sake of greater benefits.

He added that the coalition had formally moved and adopted a motion urging the Governor to defect to the APC “without hesitation,” insisting that doing so would enhance the flow of federal democratic dividends to Plateau State.

The group thereafter presented a letter of advocacy at the Government House.

Receiving the delegation, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Jeremiah Satmark, thanked the group for what he described as a thoughtful and courageous advocacy visit, and explained that Governor Mutfwang was attending a meeting in Kaduna and had mandated him, alongside several senior government officials, to receive the coalition and acknowledge their message.

Satmark assured the group that their request would be delivered to the Governor, noting that Mutfwang had previously said only God and the people of Plateau State would guide his political decisions.

He praised the Governor’s transformative achievements since assuming office in May 2023 and acknowledged the group’s desire to strengthen ties between the State and the federal government.

He promised that “in due course,” the coalition would hear from the Governor after he studies their request.
