Over 200 university students and youths have been trained in peacebuilding, diplomacy, and sustainable development during the 6th Session of the Abuja International Model United Nations (AIMUN) Conference.

The event, held from October 15-16, 2025, at the United Nations House in Abuja’s Diplomatic Zone, was convened by Casmir Nnamani Nike (CNN), Country Representative for the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN) and Convener of AIMUN.

Themed “UN80: Securing Our Future Together,” the conference celebrated the 80th anniversary of the United Nations while reviving AIMUN after a four-year hiatus due to COVID-19. It was organised in partnership with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Abuja, the University of Abuja, and Africa Social Impact Development (Africa SID), an organisation founded by Nnamani.

Addressing delegates, Nnamani expressed gratitude for institutional support and highlighted the importance of youth leadership in global governance and peacebuilding. “The future we seek will not be built by governments alone, but by young people who are informed, inspired, and intentional about change,” he said.

The two-day conference transformed the UN House into a practical leadership and peacebuilding laboratory. Delegates participated in simulations across committees such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), and the Economic and Financial Committee (ECOFIN). Topics included peace and security in Ukraine, the weaponisation of artificial intelligence, the proliferation of small arms in the Sahel, and strategies to finance Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Global South.

UNIC Abuja Director, Ronald Kanyanja, commended the partnership with AIMUN, CYPAN, and Africa SID for advancing global peace and development goals. “The United Nations has been a global centre for driving peace, security, and humanitarian action for 80 years, and collaborations like this ensure its impact reaches the next generation,” he said.

Concluding the session, Nnamani inspired the delegates, saying, “Today you are Model United Nations participants, tomorrow you lead the United Nations.”

The successful conclusion of AIMUN 2025 marks a significant milestone in Nnamani’s ongoing efforts to promote the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda across Nigeria.
