…Says Tinubu Renewing Commitment to Tackle Insecurity

The Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has congratulated former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), on his appointment as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, describing it as a strong indication of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed resolve to address insecurity across the country.

President Tinubu announced General Musa’s appointment earlier in the week following the resignation of former Defence Minister Abubakar Badaru on health grounds.

In a statement issued on Friday, Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said the President’s choice reflects responsiveness to public expectations by appointing a seasoned military officer known for professionalism and operational effectiveness.

Hayab noted that General Musa’s tenure as Chief of Defence Staff contributed significantly to stabilisation efforts in several operational zones, particularly in the North East and North West. He expressed confidence that Musa’s return to the national security architecture at ministerial level will further strengthen ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and related security threats.

Northern CAN urged citizens, traditional rulers, community figures and security stakeholders to support the new Defence Minister, stressing that safeguarding the nation requires unity, vigilance and collective responsibility.

The association also encouraged General Musa to prioritise troop welfare, enhance collaboration among security agencies and ensure prompt responses to emerging challenges. It appealed to the Federal Government to maintain investments in modern equipment, technology and intelligence systems, noting that Nigerians are hopeful for visible improvements in security conditions in the months ahead.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace, unity and responsible civic engagement, Northern CAN said Musa’s appointment has the potential to strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions.

The association added that it would continue to advocate policies that promote stability, national cohesion and the overall wellbeing of citizens.
