Ogun State has emerged as one of the leading implementing states under the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU), having successfully formed 2,000 Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) within six weeks of full implementation of the project.
This achievement was disclosed in a statement signed by the State Project Coordinator, Mrs. Bolanle Fadairo, who described the milestone; captured on the national Project Management Information System (PMIS), as a testament to the state’s strong institutional readiness and unwavering commitment to women empowerment under the scale-up phase of the project.
According to Fadairo, the feat reflects the visionary leadership and sustained support of the present administration, as well as the political will demonstrated by critical stakeholders involved in the project.
“The achievement underscores the commitment of the Ogun State Government to inclusive development and women-focused empowerment initiatives,” she said.
She commended the strategic collaboration among the Ministries of Finance; Women Affairs and Social Development; Budget and Planning, as well as the dedication and efficiency of the State Project Coordinating Unit (SPCU).
Giving a breakdown of the WAGs formation across the four implementing local government areas, Fadairo revealed that Ijebu-Ode Local Government recorded the highest number with 760 groups, representing 38 per cent of the total, while Ifo Local Government recorded 569 groups, accounting for 28.45 per cent.
She added that Sagamu Local Government formed 378 WAGs, representing 18.9 per cent, while Ado-Odo/Ota recorded 293 groups, accounting for 14.64 per cent.
Fadairo noted that the distribution reflects effective community mobilisation and strong grassroots engagement across the project areas.
The State Project Coordinator reaffirmed the resolve of the Ogun State Government to sustain the momentum, deepen the project’s impact and consolidate the gains achieved under the NFWP-SU, positioning the state as a reference point for effective implementation and inclusive, women-centred development nationwide.
