Hundreds of families in Alausa area of Ikeja Local Government have applauded the Executive Vice Chairman of the council, Mr. Abisola Omisore, over the distribution of free food items to residents as part of activities marking the Christmas celebration.
The three-day Yuletide food relief exercise, which ended on December 25, saw the distribution of mini bags of rice to residents at Sunday Adigun Street and other parts of the vice chairman’s immediate community, aimed at easing the burden on families during the festive season.
Speaking during the distribution, Omisore described the initiative as a modest way of giving back to the people and sharing in the joy of Christmas, noting that the welfare of residents remained a priority of the council.
According to him, the gesture aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Ikeja political agenda, both of which place emphasis on people-centred governance, social support and inclusive development.
He acknowledged that the relief packages could not reach every household but expressed confidence that the initiative would provide meaningful support to beneficiaries during the Yuletide.
“This is one of the little ways we can bring relief to the residents, especially at this festive season, by giving them needed items to celebrate. We are concerned about the welfare of our people, and that is why we are distributing hundreds of rice packages to support families,” Omisore said.
The vice chairman also urged residents, particularly youths, to remain calm and peaceful throughout the festive period, stressing the need for unity, harmony and collective responsibility in the community.
He further assured residents of his commitment to consolidating and expanding the scope of such welfare-driven initiatives in subsequent years.
Some beneficiaries commended the vice chairman for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.
An octogenarian resident, Mrs. Seliat Bashiru, praised Omisore for remembering the people during the Christmas season, saying the food items would go a long way in supporting her family.
“We really appreciate the vice chairman for his kindness to the residents, and we pray that God continues to bless him in his political career,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Sodiq Adebayo, also expressed gratitude, noting that the rice packages would ease the pressure on families during the festivities.
“We are really happy for this packaged rice given to us at this point in time. It will go a long way in taking care of the beneficiaries this season,” he said.
Residents described the initiative as a demonstration of responsive leadership and called for the sustenance of similar programmes to support vulnerable households across Ikeja Local Government.
