Christmas: Christians urged to remain united in season of shared love

Christians in Adamawa State have been called upon to sustain unity, peace and love beyond the Christmas season, as faith-based organisations continue to promote harmony and compassion across communities.

This message resonated strongly in Numan Local Government Area, where the AB Haske Foundation hosted a colourful Christmas music concert that brought together Christians from different denominations to celebrate the birth of Christ.

The event, which featured gospel music, prayers and the distribution of food items to Christian families, attracted a large turnout and created a festive atmosphere marked by joy, fellowship and goodwill.

Speaking with The Guardian, the chief organiser of the programme and Personal Assistant to Hon. Abdularahman Bashir Haske, Miss Rejoice Ishaku, said the concert was designed to promote unity among Christians and residents of Adamawa State.

According to her, the initiative was inspired by Hon. Haske, founder of the AB Haske Foundation and a governorship aspirant for 2026.

“The Christmas concert is an idea developed by His Excellency Abdularahman Bashir Haske and sponsored by the AB Haske Foundation, with the sole aim of fostering unity and peaceful coexistence among Christians and the people of Adamawa State,” she said.

Miss Ishaku described the concert as the first of its kind in the state and expressed optimism that it would grow into a recurring platform for uniting Christians across denominations. She also noted that the foundation is well known for supporting victims of disasters and people facing hardship across Adamawa State.

She explained that the Christmas outreach aligns with the foundation’s broader mission of spreading love, compassion and hope, particularly during festive periods. She further encouraged Nigerian youths to participate actively in politics, stressing that youth involvement is crucial to improving leadership and governance in the country.

Religious leaders present at the event commended the AB Haske Foundation for promoting Christian unity and supporting the welfare of vulnerable families.

In separate remarks, Pastor Blings Hosea Kosomso of Evergreen Church, Yola, and Rev. Yakisim Zuke of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN – Majami’ar Ubangiji) expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the distribution of food items such as bags of rice brought relief and hope to struggling families.

They called on other leaders, philanthropists and organisations to emulate the foundation’s commitment to peace and humanitarian service.

Rev. Zuke said, “I urge every personality and foundation with the capacity to bring people together to think the way the Haske Foundation thinks. One cannot lead effectively without uniting the people.”

The programme featured vibrant performances by church choirs, youth groups and gospel artistes, with carols, worship songs and dance presentations creating a lively yet reverent atmosphere.

Dignitaries at the event included Bishop Bulus Elam Taiya (Shalom Christian Centre, Numan), Bishop Rhema Bitrus (Shelter of Hope, Abundant Life Church), Bishop Emmanuel Augustine (Christian Word Centre), Rev. Yusuf Usman (LCCN) and Rev. Anthony Ngbale (Anglican Church), alongside many other clergy and church elders.

Community members described the concert as a refreshing moment of fellowship after a year marked by economic challenges and social tensions. Beneficiaries of the food support expressed gratitude to Hon. Haske and the foundation, saying the gesture enabled them to celebrate Christmas with dignity and joy.

Observers noted that the event reinforced calls for Christian unity in Adamawa State and highlighted the role of faith-based organisations in fostering social harmony.

Organisers confirmed that plans are underway to make the Christmas concert an annual event, with the aim of expanding its reach across the state.

As the celebration drew to a close, singing, laughter and warm embraces filled the air, capturing the true spirit of Christmas.
