As anticipation heightens ahead of the 2025 Best of Nollywood, BON, Awards, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr.Mudashiru Obasa, has added a significant boost to this year’s ceremony by endowing the highly coveted Best Indigenous Movie, Yoruba, category.
The awards, scheduled for Sunday, December 14, at the newly renamed Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts (formerly National Arts Theatre), Iganmu, Lagos, will once again spotlight the vibrancy of Nollywood and its cultural depth.
In his statement, the dounder of the BON Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, described Obasa’s gesture as a reflection of his longstanding commitment to promoting Yoruba culture through the film industry.
According to him, “Obasa’s endowment of the award underscores his passion for the Yoruba language. He has always been at the forefront of preserving our rich cultural narratives through film, and this endowment is further proof of his dedication.”
“Beyond Obasa’s contribution, the 17th edition of the BON Awards is also enjoying strong corporate backing. Addme has endowed the Best Actress of the Year category, amplifying its commitment to celebrating outstanding female performance in Nollywood. Popular household brand Indomie continues its tradition of supporting young talent by sponsoring the Best Child Actor award.
In an interesting creative twist, agricultural wholesale brand Abundish has taken up sponsorship of the Best Use of Food in a Movie category an endorsement Oloketuyi says elevates technical artistry in filmmaking.
According to him“These endorsements provide crucial support and enhance the prestige of each category,” Oloketuyi noted. “This year’s awards not only celebrate the finest creative and technical talents in Nollywood but also highlight the strategic partnerships emerging between the film industry and key corporate and public personalities.”
The 2025 ceremony will be hosted by the energetic duo of Bukunmi ‘KieKie’ Adeaga-Ilori and Adams Ibrahim Adebola (VJ Adams), with Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, serving as Host Governor.
With cultural pride, corporate sponsorship, and creative excellence converging, the stage is set for what promises to be one of the most memorable editions of the BON Awards yet.
