Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has distributed more than 2,000 bags of 25kg rice to constituents across the five local government areas of Kogi Central Senatorial District, in a bid to cushion the impact of rising food prices and ensure a dignified festive season for residents.

The Christmas palliative distribution was carried out simultaneously in Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okene, Okehi and Ogori-Magongo Local Government Areas. Community leaders and beneficiaries described the exercise as one of the largest and most inclusive rice distributions ever conducted in the district.

Speaking on the initiative, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said the gesture was inspired by compassion, the spirit of the season and the harsh economic realities facing many Nigerian households.

“At a time when many families are struggling with the cost of living, it is important that we stand with our people in practical ways,” she said. “This rice distribution is to ensure that families across Kogi Central can celebrate the festive season without undue hardship.”

The distribution cut across various segments of the population, including community groups, women associations, youth organisations, religious bodies, the elderly and other vulnerable residents within the senatorial district.

Community leaders who supervised the exercise commended the scale and reach of the intervention. A traditional ruler in Okene described it as “real and far-reaching support,” noting that the quantity and spread of the rice reflected genuine concern for grassroots welfare.

In Adavi Local Government Area, a youth representative praised the inclusiveness of the exercise, stressing that beneficiaries were not selected along party lines.

“Nobody was excluded. Party affiliation did not matter,” he said.

While addressing beneficiaries in Okehi, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to service-oriented representation, stating that her responsibilities extended beyond legislative duties in Abuja.

“Representation goes beyond the Senate chamber,” she said. “It means being present, listening to the people and responding with actions that improve daily life.”

Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the senator, offering prayers and describing the gesture as timely, compassionate and reflective of people-centred leadership.
