ABUJA – A youth coalition under the auspices of United Nigerian Youth Congress, UNYC, Thursday, disclosed moves to support younger candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.
This was made known at the 2025 National Youth Conference with the theme ‘Nigeria First: Leadership, Solution for National Growth’ in Abuja, and organised by the Congress.
Speaking on the essence of the Conference that had young people from different backgrounds converging on Abuja, the President, UNYC, Arc. Nasir Sulaiman Chamber, explained that they promised to build bridges where others “built walls”, but the Conference was purely organised to “unite this country where others divided it, and that young people would no longer be tools of political manipulation but partners in governance and leadership.”
Chamber passionately said “with this coalition, that promise is no longer a dream. It is becoming our reality.”
According to him, over 1,000 civil society organizations have come under one umbrella to join the UNYC in the course for a new Nigeria.
Meanwhile, he said the UNYC is not the usual pressure group that people know neither as spectators but as “nation-builders, agenda setters, and future custodians of the new Nigerian project.”
He also said out that youth at the Conference were “from Sokoto to Calabar, from Maiduguri to Lagos, from Makurdi to Owerri our flags are one, our hearts beat as one, and our mission is clear: To rebuild Nigeria through unity, peace, and patriotic action.”
He asserted that the the era of fault lines in the Nigerian political system is ending with the resolve of over 1000 youth based organisations under the auspices of UNYC.
He said: “Today, through our coalition with like-minded youth organizations, civic actors, professional bodies, and grassroots movements across the federation, we are laying the foundation for a national mega coalition—a movement bigger than any single individual, broader than any existing party structure, and deeper than the politics of ethnicity, religion, or tribe. This coalition is more than a partnership.
“It is a commitment. A commitment to rewrite Nigeria’s political story. A commitment to build a platform that outlives personalities. A commitment to build a system that puts Nigeria first.
“Most parties have no philosophical foundation—no guiding principle, no long-term national vision. Instead, we witness constant cross-carpeting, driven not by ideology, but by personal ambition and survival.
“The youths of Nigeria reject this culture. Despite over a decade of neutrality in the political arena, it is time we come out from our caves and join the fight.
“Therefore, in this coalition, we will scout for competent, disciplined, patriotic young Nigerians who have the capacity to hold positions from the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship positions, Local government councils, And other strategic political offices.
“We will train them. We will mentor them. We will support them and we will present them to the nation as the new generation of leaders.
“We are not forming just a coalition. We are building a nationalist movement—a family of patriotic Nigerians determined to take responsibility for the future of this nation. Our dream is not small. Our vision is not ordinary.
“Our ambition is not timid. We aim to build a movement so strong, so organized, and so rooted in the people that the world will recognize Nigeria not for its challenges, but for its young, vibrant, unstoppable spirit.
“A Nigeria: Respected by the international media, Celebrated for its unity, Guided by ideology, Driven by patriotism, and Powered by its youth.”
