10th anniversary: Ife indigenes celebrate with Ooni Ogunwusi

As the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi celebrates a decade on the throne, sons and daughters of the ancient town joined the monarch in celebrating the milestone.

Youths, earlier in the morning thronged major streets, in Ile-Ife, in carnival like mood, walking from Oba Okunade Sijuwade Memorial Hall through Moore, Fajuyi, Sabo, Oduduwa Streets to the Palace, where interdenominational prayers were held for the monarch.

The parades had youths blowing the vuvuzela across the town to highlight Ooni’s decade of impactful leadership.

The event, tagged, “A Day with Ojaja II”, was the initiative of the Ife Development Board, IDB, celebrate not just the monarch the descendants of Oduduwa race globally.

The events climaxed with a Royal dinner, where cultural music was played and series of ancient Ife artifacts were displayed to thrill the audience in the presence of the Ooni who is grand host.

Addressing the gathering, the Ooni of Ife thanked organizers of the programme for putting up such massive events in his honour, adding that he has enjoyed immeasurable support from natives and residents of the ancient town since ascending the Oduduwa throne.

“The last 10 years have come and gone with numerous opportunities and challenges, I thank God Almighty for all He has done and I also wish to appreciate everyone here for the love and support. Let us renew our vow to create the Ile Ife of our dreams for peace, prosperity and unity of the entire Oduduwa race.” The Ooni said.
