BENIN CITY – AS a way of promoting made-in-Nigeria fabrics, a dealer in fashion and fabrics, Omoruyi Ikechukwu, has called on Nigerian tailors to be professional in their attitude to ensure the promotion of Nigerian clothing materials and styles.
He said Nigeria has one of the best designers and tailors in the world, but the unprofessional conduct of many of them have been the bane of Nigerian tailors.
According to him, many people across the world like Nigeria’s Ankara and other materials and Nigerians abroad are always interested in showcasing these dresses abroad, but one of the challenges they face is disappointment from customers.
He said “We have many Nigerians who are bankers and others working in the corporate world, and they need suits and shirts which our Nigerian tailors can actually make.
“I once referred a tailor here to my uncle. He went to his office, took the measurements, and when I called my uncle again, he said he was impressed, he said that guy is perfect, that the young man gave him the best and since then both people in the diaspora and Nigeria have been patronising him, he has more than, 50 to 60 customers.
“Many of our tailors should also try their best to maintain their time, people are running from tailors because they don’t work with their time. Time is the key factor in any business, in any endeavor, time is when somebody gives you cloth and asks, when am I going to pick the cloth, let the time you give be the time. Many of them always disappoint their customers, that is why they don’t have many customers.”
The proprietor of Kpokish Outfits, a subsidiary of Rolitop Global Resources Limited, some young Nigerians believe in foreign wares because they make them look smart and and free “So we are dealing with 100% cotton T shirts, good belt, jeans, wallet and some luggage, something nice, accessories of boutique boxes and several others”
He also admonished in the fashion and boutique business to be patient because it is a long term investment “the reason why most people are not doing well in the business of fashion and boutique is because they never learn to work and they are not patient.
“If you want to become great, you want to achieve your goals, don’t just do business two years, five years, 10 years, you pack out no consistency. Patience is the rule of the game. Consistency is the rule of the game.”
