Osun’s Eludayo Eluyemi among 38 confirmed as Federal Character Commissioners

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Eludayo Eluyemi as the Federal Character Commissioner representing Osun State, following the approval of 38 nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu. The confirmations were carried out during Thursday’s plenary, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Also confirmed was Mrs. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, who will serve as Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), along with representatives from all 36 states and the FCT.

Presenting the screening report, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator Allwell Heacho Onyesoh, said all nominees were screened on November 13, 2025, and were found qualified, with no petitions or adverse security findings recorded against them. He noted that the committee reviewed curriculum vitae, security clearances, and other eligibility documents before recommending their confirmation.

After the chamber dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for a clause-by-clause review, the nominees were unanimously approved through a voice vote.

In Osun State, Eluyemi’s confirmation has continued to generate positive reactions. Olawale Aremu, Co-Founder of Urban Living, described the appointment as “a significant boost for Osun’s representation at the federal level,” noting that Eluyemi’s experience would contribute meaningfully to ongoing reforms within the FCC.

According to Aremu, “This confirmation is well-deserved. It reflects both competence and the growing recognition of professionals from Osun making impact nationally.”

Observers say the newly confirmed commissioners are expected to strengthen the Commission’s mandate, particularly in areas related to equity, inclusion, and the harmonisation of outdated statutory frameworks.

Other confirmed nominees include: Lawal Ya’u Roni (Jigawa); Abubakar Atiku Bunu (Kebbi); Abdulwasiu Kayode Bawalla (Lagos); Obinna Oriaku (Abia); Bema Olvadi Madayi (Adamawa); Dora Ebong (Akwa Ibom); Nnoli Nkechi Gloria (Anambra); Babangida Adamu Gwana (Bauchi); Sir Tonye Okio (Bayelsa); Aligba Eugene Tarkende (Benue); Engr.
