Nigerian Institute of Management , NIM, has enjoined members of professional bodies who are less active in their organisations to endeavour to be committed.
Chairman ,Warri Municipal chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Management , Mr Solomon Atarie, made the appeal in his opening remarks at this year’s management luncheon of the body in Effurun, Uvwie local government area, Delta state with the theme: ” sustainable and purpose driven organizations: ESG, circular economy and beyond – tribute to Peter Drucker” , stressing that those who think that they no longer need their professional bodies after using the structures to get to the top should drop such notions.
” Over the years, we have observed a worrying trend among professionals, some join professional bodies, including our own institute mainly for the certificate of membership . Once that goal is achieved and perhaps after a well deserved promotion or recognition in their workplace their commitment begins to decline “, he said.
” Belonging to NIM should never end with the collection of a certificate. That certificate merely marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning , networking and growth”, he added.
Prince Andrew Arenyeka who represented the chairman of the luncheon, Mr Eyo Okpo-Ene, Zonal chairman of the south south of NIM, lauded the Warri Municipal chapter of the institute for consistently organizing the management day luncheon, which is an annual tradition of the NIM.
Dr Frank Apokwu in his lecture at the event on the theme : ” sustainable and purpose driven organizations : ESG circular economy and beyond ” said sustainability and purpose are twin driving factors central to the survival and success of any organisation in the 21st century. ” A purpose driven ,ESG compliant and circular minded organisation not only contributes to environmental and social well-being but also enhances long-term profitability, reputation and resilience”, he said.
The Public relations officer of the body, Rev Lewis Afolabi in his paper published in the brochure on ” Managing landlord – tenant relationship ” advised property owners to engage registered property managers to avoid unnecessary friction. ” Tenant management should not be left in the hands of those without the necessary skills , registration and regulations to handle “, he said.
Awards were given to some members for their outstanding contributions to the body. They also celebrated the memories of Peter Drucker with a toast.
