The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has unveiled emerging Northern-Nigerian music star Mohammed Abubakar, popularly known as OG Abbah, as its new Brand Ambassador.
The appointment was formally announced at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja by the Federal Commissioner, Dr. Tijani Aliyu.
OG Abbah, famed for his hit track “Wayyo Allah Na”, will support the Commission’s strategic campaigns on safe migration, inclusion, and youth empowerment.
Speaking at the unveiling, Dr. Aliyu praised the young artist for his creativity and rising influence, encouraging him to embody the values of the Commission.
“I am happy and proud of you for being part of us, and I hope you will continue to not only sing but also promote the Commission,” he said. “You must be able to showcase the Commission to the world, particularly as we remain dedicated to migration and IDP issues, which are major global challenges. Truly, greatness can come from anywhere when talent meets opportunity.”
He added that the NCFRMI looks forward to partnering with the singer to boost national awareness, support vulnerable communities, and promote safer migration choices across the country.
In his acceptance speech, OG Abbah expressed appreciation for the honour and pledged to use his platform to advance the Commission’s programmes.
The fast-rising star was discovered through the Born Talent Hunt in IDP camps — an initiative of I Am the Future of Nigeria Youth Initiative — and has become a symbol of resilience and creativity within displaced communities.
Mrs. Noni Okocha, CEO of the initiative, described OG Abbah as a beacon of hope. “His story is a testament to the talent and potential within our displaced communities. His dedication to uplifting others makes him the perfect ambassador for safe migration and youth empowerment,” she said.
As part of his new role, OG Abbah will lead the NCFRMI’s nationwide campaign, “Japa or Not to Japa,” aimed at educating young Nigerians on the dangers of irregular migration while promoting safe, legal, and informed pathways.
The campaign will extend to IDP camps, border communities, schools, media platforms, and other high-risk migration areas.
Beyond his music career, OG Abbah has demonstrated strong commitment to mentorship and inclusion. He notably collaborated with multi-talented autistic artist Tobechi Achionye (Kind Toby) on the awareness song “Be Kind.”
To further amplify his story, the NCFRMI has approved the development of a biographical feature film documenting OG Abbah’s journey from adversity to national recognition. The film is designed to serve as an educational and inspirational tool both locally and internationally.
