A youth based organization, UYOTA, Uplifting Youths Through Agriculture, a non-governmental initiative that is focused on empowering young people through agriculture, holds a two day African Youths Agri-Business Summit, in Abuja.
The group aims to increase youth participation in agriculture and broaden agricultural value chain that brings people from across Africa to explore critical issues in agriculture. UYOTA collaborates with other organizations like Wambugu, Apple, to empower the Nigerian Youths through agriculture.
UYOTA, in 2016, was borne out of a simple but powerful conviction by Ambassador Princess Afoma Adigwe. Its exists to empower, educate, and equip the youth to see agriculture not as a last resort, but as a first-class enterprise which is a pathway to innovation, wealth creation, and continental transformation. The CEO, Hon. Abolade Ojo Olayemi, during the opening programme said, “As we gather here today, diplomats, policymakers, investors, and dreamers, we are bound by one common vissio: to build a sustainable Africa where no young person is left behind. Our mandate at UYOTA is to transform potential into productivity, energy into enterprise, and dreams into development. Our vision at UYOTA is to make agriculture the new gold of Africa, to be empowered by youthful passion, guided by wisdom, and sustained by innovation.”
Visitors and agric enthusiastists across the globe graced the summit where several initiatives were launched to curb the menace of unemployment through agriculture, uplifting young people through actionable solutions that’ll empower African youths.
Bola Ojo, the CEO, aka, Bolo, urges the federal government to take active interest in agriculture, as this is one of the ways in which the country’s economy could be repositioned for rejuvenation, and to expand revenue generation and create employment opportunities.
The program drew participants/delegates from across different countries and farm settlements where farmers gathered to discuss the future of Nigeria through agriculture. The summit on the second day ended with a gala night where the participants exchanged contacts and valuable ideas on agriculture.
