Worried by the nation’s security challenges, the women wing of the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) in Akoko South-East and Akoko South-West council areas of Ondo State, have held a special prayer session for the country and President Bola Tinubu, seeking divine intervention.
The event, organised under the platform of the group’s regular women dialogue programme known as Ondo Women Meeting, took place at the Oka-Akoko Town Hall in Akoko South-West council area.
It drew a large turnout of women from the two local government areas as well as GMT leaders and community stakeholders.
Participants offered prayers for peace, stability and improved security across the country, during the sessions and reaffirmed the group’s support for President Tinubu’s administration and its efforts to address national challenges.
The Chief Imam of Oka-Akoko, Alhaji Mohammad Isa Abubakar, and Rev. Canon Daniel Opeyemi Aliu of St. James Anglican Church, Oka-Akoko, led separate prayer sessions for the end of insecurity.
Both clerics also commended the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at the event, the State Director-General of GMT, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, said the prayer session was part of the group’s grassroots efforts to support the Federal Government’s drive to tackle insecurity.
Ogunleye said “We are here today to pray for the nation, for Mr. President and for our state. There is a lot of insecurity, especially in the northern part of the country, and Mr. President is doing everything possible to address it.
“From our own end, what we can do is to continue to pray for him, for Nigeria and for Ondo State.”
He added that Hon. Tunji-Ojo financed the programme and has continued to support GMT’s mobilisation across the state.
According to him “He ensures that GMT remains strong in mobilising grassroots support for President Tinubu.
” It is our prayer that God will continue to give him wisdom and good health,” Yusuf-Ogunleye said.
The GMT state leader noted that Thursday’s prayer session was the first in a series of similar programmes scheduled to hold across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Ogunleye stated that another session would hold in Akure on Saturday and that non-indigenes, including Hausa and Ebira communities, would also hold a special prayer programme for the nation.
“We believe strongly in the efficacy of prayer. We are confident that God will intervene in the challenges facing the country and touch the hearts of those causing unrest.”
Also speaking, the Director of Women Affairs of GMT, Chief (Mrs.) Olamide Falana, said the women gathered to pray for the success of President Tinubu, Ondo State Governor and the Minister of Interior.
Falana added that “Akoko women have come together to pray for the security of Nigeria. We have prayed for President Tinubu to succeed and for his efforts to yield positive results.
“We have also prayed for our governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and for Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who is a benevolent leader. We believe that after these prayers, good things will happen in our land.”
