Former Ogun State governorship candidate, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has officially announced his intention to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde as the next governor of Oyo State in 2027.
Ajadi, who recently joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the declaration yesterday during a visit to the Oyo State PDP Secretariat in Ibadan.
Addressing an expanded State Executive Committee of about 72 members, Ajadi said he had returned to his ancestral home to unveil his political ambition.
“Many Nigerians, especially from Ogun State, have asked about my next political move. But I have chosen to come to my ancestral land, my fatherland in Ibadan, to declare that I am ready to serve.
“I am here to formally announce my aspiration to take over from Governor Seyi Makinde as the next governor of Oyo State, by the grace of God,” he stated.
Ajadi, who previously contested under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 Ogun governorship election, said joining the PDP in Oyo State was driven by his desire to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.
Responding, Oyo State PDP Chairman, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, affirmed that Ajadi’s declaration before the extended executive officially recognised him as a governorship aspirant of the party.
“As we approach 2027, many aspirants will begin to make their intentions known. Ambassador Ajadi is here today to express his aspiration to the Agodi Government House under the PDP.
“With his declaration before this expanded executive, he is duly acknowledged as a governorship aspirant of our party. We pray his ambition receives God’s favour,” Ogungbenro said.
The event attracted a large turnout of PDP members, supporters of the Ajadi Movement, and well-wishers who welcomed his entry into the Oyo 2027 governorship race.
