Jos – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has expressed joy over the emergence of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as the new National Chairman of the ruling Party, describing his elevation as a significant political milestone not just for the Party but for the people of Plateau State and Nigeria at large.

In a statement signed by the Acting Publicity Secretary of the Plateau APC, Shittu Bamaiyi, the Party celebrated the development as the second time in Nigeria’s political history that an indigene of Plateau has risen to lead the ruling party at the national level, following in the footsteps of the late Chief Solomon Lar, who was the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Professor Yilwatda, who currently serves as the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, was unanimously endorsed by the APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC), the Party’s highest decision-making body.

“A Professor of Artificial Intelligence and an accomplished technocrat, Nentawe Yilwatda has in less than a year in the Federal Executive Council distinguished himself with exceptional performance and integrity, winning the admiration of Nigerians and members of the international community,” the statement said.

The Party credited his rise to National Party leadership to his track record of competence, integrity, and administrative excellence, noting that these qualities earned him the trust of President Bola Tinubu and key stakeholders in the Party.

“For the President to have settled on Professor Yilwatda despite the presence of other strong contenders from the North-Central zone, speaks volumes about the confidence he has in him to steer the APC through the complex dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape,” Bamaiyi noted.

Describing the appointment as a “watershed moment for Plateau State, the APC said it brings renewed confidence and recognition to the State and called on the people of Plateau to reciprocate by showing support to the Party and its new leader.

“Nentawe’s elevation symbolizes youthfulness, intellect, fearlessness, and patriotism. He is a shining representation of what the State and the country need in visionary leadership,” the statement added.

The Plateau APC commended President Tinubu for what it called “a thoughtful and strategic appointment,” and extended hearty congratulations to Professor Nentawe. The Party also pledged its unflinching support as he assumes the demanding role of leading the APC at the national level.

“We wish him a fruitful and impactful tenure and pray that his leadership brings honour to Plateau and advancement to the APC across the federation,” the statement stated.
